Project M “The Masterpieces II”
The 2nd album of “Project M”, a unit of up-and-coming people in their 20s led by Miku Yonezawa of saxophone. The previous work consisted of pop and rock from the 1960s to the 1970s in the first half, and hit songs from the Showa era to the early Heisei era in the second half (looks like), but in the second, the times and genres become more turbid. Based on their (or producer Etsuji Ogawa’s) claim that “good melodies give off a universal appeal,” the “masterpieces” arranged by the current jazz interpretation are skillfully tailored to “pop jazz.” The reason why I can fix it is not only because “the song is good”, but also because I can see the “sound” that should be drawn on the extension line that connects the song and ourselves today.<Eichi Tomizawa>
